Our crew needed to be very tenacious (stubborn), persistant and determined in their work. Our tools were all hand-tools such as Pulaski's, Grub Hoes, Picks, Chain Saws, Shovels, Steel Bars, Pruning Shears, Chain-Blocks and Pulleys.

It was a lot of hard work trenching through the forest floor in steep terrains with staggering ammounts of roots and rocks to contend with. There was also the occasional boulder - a surprise sometimes that left the crew battered and triumphant at the end of the extraction.

The waterline needed to be buried to protect it physically as well as from frost so it would not freeze during the winter months. It was a good learning experience for the younger generation, and a real slugger for the rest. The total length of the of the pipe was about 2,450 feet and 250 feet of it was above ground, crossing over Keen Creek and one of its sidearms

One of the most difficult challenges was to cross Keen Creek at the bottom of the valley. This had to be done because on the other side of the creek there was an established logging road, which we could use to transport the water back to the bakery.

High-Lining across Keen Creek was a time-consuming as well as adventurous effort with the turbulent summer runoff below. We strung three cables in total

1.) - One to attach the actual waterline to
2.) - One to install a cable car so that we could service the water line - especially during        winter months
3.) - One for placement of red warning cones for any aircrafts, especially helicopters.

By the fall, we had our cable car in place and everyone loves to go for a ride on it! It works extremely well and at a span of 133 feet (40 m) it is a pleasure to sail down the line with it. The cable car allowed us to work on the waterline - fastening it to the cable and insulating it against the cold of winter.
