In 1993, the organic movement was still in its infant shoes. Today, more and more stores carry organic foods. Living the orgainic life is not possible without one's own conviction. Not only does this take dedication and setting priorities, but it is a lifestyle. It has been an experience that 'leading by example' or 'do unto others as you would do unto yourself' has been one of the guiding lights for what we have achieved.

It has not been all that long that gardening your own food was a common practice; likely your parents or grandparents still did. Buying off the grocery shelves is of rather recent vintage. But where have all the gardens dissapeared to? Beautiful lawns and ornamental trees decorate the outside of most people's houses today.

Next time you watch home movies, make it a conscious effort to look for it. It is a fact that 50-60 years ago, home gardening was practiced even by most city dwellers. What this signals for people today is a total dependence on foods from our grocery store, which recently is under scrutiny for the quality of foods that the general public is eating - obesity being one of the major concerns besides a whole lot of other directly linked issues.

Even a small herb garden on your balcony can bring variety and fulfillment if your time-table is such that there is not enough time for a full-size garden.

The other key pleasure and reward in life is to spend meaningful time with your kids. Gardening, with the subsequent harvesting and preservation of the foods, is family bonding at its best, as well as being educational. Kids need to know where the foods that they eat come from.
